Back to School Books

August means one thing...time to head back to school! So, why kids everywhere are prepping for another year in the classroom, why not consider cramming in a little creativity for yourself. Take a look at a different craft book suggestion each day and click the links for more information or to order it yourself. Spent your cash on back to school clothes instead? August 4 - A classic crafting book from Reader's Digest. I've actually had mine since 1981 it's first year of publication. Some of the ideas and techniques are a little dated, but it is a wonderful resource to have in your collection. Crafts and Hobbies: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creative Skills

August 5 - Feed your craft habit by selling your work or teaching others how to make it themselves. There are so many venues out there for turning your hobby into an income and this book helps lay it all out for you. Craft, Inc.: Turn Your Creative Hobby into a Business

August 6 - Next week, I'm heading back to the classroom myself, but as the teacher not a student. I'm putting this on my "gifts for our classroom" list. August 8 - I'm actually hoping this year that handmade candy kicks the cupcake craze to the curb. August 10 - Living in San Francisco you learn real quick to layer! It can be freezing in one part of the city and hotter than sin in another. Needless to say I have many sweater and some have seen better days. Thanks to this book I know exactly what to do with them! - Sweater Surgery: How to Make New Things with Old Sweaters

August 11 - Over the years I've really valued the creative connections I've made with people. Sherri Haab is one of those people. She's incredibly gifted and giving of her knowledge. She wrote the first book on working with silver clay and recently published a new edition. Check it out for yourself, you'll be glad you did! - The Art of Metal Clay, Revised and Expanded Edition

August 12 - Today was my first day back to school and I have a love/hate relationship with bulletin boards. Love making them, hate how much paper is used to create them. I solved the problem by using galvanized steel sheets for my backboard, and now...I have magnetic bulletin boards. August 13 - Friday the 13th! Well today SCREAMS for a book on Halloween Crafts. From the candy to the craftin' October 31st is a great day for creating something special (and of course spooky). I think I could give Martha and her take on Halloween a run for her well-earned money, but this year I'll tip my hat to this book instead. - Matthew Mead's Monster Book of Halloween

August 16 - I had to get my classroom ready this weekend, plus teach out-of-town classes. So I missed two days of recommendations. They're coming, but I need a craftier way to organize my schedule. The "My Calendar" kit isn't a book, but I love the idea of creating a calendar with my own personal touch. My Calendar Kit.

August 17 - I'm still waiting on my first book deal (keep your fingers crossed). In the mean time you'll have to settle for a book that feature my projects.
